From Scents to Light: The Essence of the Hinterland
Description
First stop: Grasse, the perfume capital of the world
Your adventure begins with an olfactory immersion in the historic city of Grasse. Perched on the hillsides, it overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. Stroll through the cobbled streets of the old town, visit a prestigious perfumery to discover the secrets of perfume creation, and let yourself be enveloped by the scent of jasmine or May rose, the region's emblematic flowers. Grasse is the art of fragrance in its purest form.
Stage 2: Gourdon, the stone eagle
Continuing along the spectacular Route Napoléon as it winds through the Gorges du Loup, you arrive at Gourdon. This village, listed among “The Most Beautiful Villages of France,” is literally perched on a rocky outcrop at an altitude of 760 meters, like an eagle's nest. The view from its central square is breathtaking: a 180° panorama stretching from the mountains to the sea. Explore its medieval castle and gardens, and feel the serenity of the heights.
Third stop: Tourette-sur-Loup, the village of violets
The descent to Tourette-sur-Loup is like entering a colorful, artistic world. This circular village, built around its church, is famous for its violet cultivation, which is used to make candies, honey, and even perfume. Its cobbled streets are lined with craft workshops and art galleries. The atmosphere is gentle, creative, and authentic, with weathered stone buildings and geraniums blooming in the windows.
Last stop: Saint-Paul de Vence, artists' paradise
Your day culminates in Saint-Paul de Vence, the region's most famous village. As you pass through its majestic 14th-century gate, you enter a veritable open-air museum. From the ramparts, the view of the hinterland is magnificent. But Saint-Paul is above all the soul of artistic modernity: the nearby Fondation Maeght, contemporary art galleries, and the legacy of great names such as Chagall and Modigliani who stayed there. A stroll through history and creativity, to be savored until sunset.
Why This Tour is Unique:
It offers a perfect summary of the best of the French Riviera's hinterland: the smell in Grasse, the view in Gourdon, the taste and touch (of crafts) in Tourette-sur-Loup, and sight again, combined with an artistic experience, in Saint-Paul de Vence. It is a sensory and cultural journey through breathtaking landscapes.
